Children are our taonga/treasure, and as such they are to be valued and treated with respect.
Children are our future, yes, but they are also part of our present.
Our Objectives: To provide free access to professional counselling for children. To provide a safe place for children to talk and be listened to. To empower children to access support. To develop interpersonal skills in children. To build rapport with children and normalise the counselling process through informal interaction within schools. To provide opportunity to build resilience and resistance to self harm. To work alongside other youth agencies.
Research shows that early intervention is the most efficient means of effecting change, and ChatBus aims to provide this intervention so that issues are dealt with before the complicating factors of teenage years are added. ChatBus is a ‘fence at the top of the cliff’ rather than ‘an ambulance at the bottom’ of the cliff.
Often children are in situations of abuse and/or neglect, and it is very difficult for a child to access help for these type of situations.
Consequently they have no voice, and have to endure the situation in which they find themselves.
ChatBus, being on site at school, provides the easiest path to finding the support they need.
Our taonga (treasure) needs our love and support.
